While I generally did not care for either Blacktron line mainly because the
color scheme represented "the bad guys", I still think the BTII ships where • some
of the coolest, most futuristic looking designs Lego ever made.  Especially • 6891
and 6887.  Imagine being a kid and getting 6891 for Christmas.  How many
alternate models could you make?  I haven't seen a set as cool or flexible.

One thing I liked about 6981 (you _do_ mean 6981, right?) was its departure
from the cockpit-nose engine-tail design that dominates most if not all
Space themes. Examples of this are 6929, 6979, 6982, 6780, 6891... :-)
On the other hand, 6981 is really just a refinement of 6932. A justifiable
refinement, though - sleeker and sexier.
And yeah, as I mentioned elsewhere in the thread, 6887 is one of my
favourite sets. It was also my first multiple purchase, y'know, where you
say to yourself, "I love this set so much I'll buy two more!".

I like Exploriens for the color motiff and the cool pieces/ possibilities, • not
necessarily the initial designs.

I agree - I have found the elements in Exploriens sets, and elements that
fit its theme, to be most inspirational.

Classic space seems rather crude/ simplistic to me.  You can tell Lego was • new
at the Space idea.

I feel that the first few years featured very strong designs, then began to
lose inspiration. By '87 the designs looked rather tired to me. I think TLC
knew this, and I see the change in Space themes as evidence of such.

Cheers,
Paul
