Indeed. A possible way to achieve it, though, is to have them be in a
stretch of track that is always traversed in a given direction... that puts
a crimp in track design, to be sure, but those tiny segments are very very
hard to come by, that's all I am saying...

Another good idea. It too puts a crimp in track design, but it's better
(where achievable) than using reversers as a crimp of long long straights is
not as limiting as a crimp of unidirectional operation (or motor drives to
work the reversers to circumvent it! blech!)
