Re: IR tower problems on a laptop with NQC

The light goes on as soon as you plug in the tower? Sounds like someone is already using COM3. I was looking around DELL technical support and you may have a bit of work ahead of you. First off your serial port on the inspiron 8200 should be COM1. I (...) (18 years ago, 9-Mar-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, FTX)

firmdl3 error - bad ir link

Hi- Recently, I've been getting the "bad ir link" error from firmdl3. I can't figure out what's wrong - I've tried new batteries, different lighting conditions, near/far mode, slow/fast. I hope I haven't fried my tower - could someone please tell me (...) (23 years ago, 2-Jun-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Change the the parity setting of the IR tower.

Can I change the parity setting of ther IR tower so that I can use 8 data bit, no parity, 1 stopbit instead of 8 databit, odd parity, 1 stopbit. I want to access the IR tower with a serial port that has only the settings 8N1. (21 years ago, 9-Mar-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: IR Tower Use

(...) This isn't true at all. The tower converts an RS-232 serial transmission directly into IR and vice-versa. It is a pretty standard protocol. -Kekoa (23 years ago, 26-May-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Maybe the ambient light is too high ? in that case you can decrease visible light sensitivity as well as shielding detector from red LED light using this method : (URL) (only hope that this doesn't offend your "Lego purity" sense ;o) Philo (...) (22 years ago, 16-Jan-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
