  Trinity College robot contest

Hi everyone, Jake Mendelssohn has posted the rules for the 4th annual spring 1997 Fire-Fighting Robot Contest. I went to the 1996 contest and it was great fun. The contest draws people from all over the world, including hobbyists, university folk, (...) (28 years ago, 11-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: your mail

(...) That makes sense. I suppose if I had a linux laptop, I wouldn't mind so much... :-) I suppose I prefer the graphical versions becaused I've been using them for some time, and have gotten used to their feel. Also, I managed to get pretty sick (...) (28 years ago, 11-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  (no subject)

(...) Good question. Many UNIX programs are text-based, which allows easier integration with editors, etc. (if you disable paren balencing, you should be able to run IC under emacs, for example). Also, some (few) UNIX people are still using (...) (28 years ago, 11-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IC 3.1 for linux

Well, I finally broke down and bought a PC. (after being an amiga user for serveral years...) In an attempt to make life more interesting, i decided to install linux on my system.   Re: Monster Traxx ?

(...) Lots of robot stuff can be had at thrift stores. Salvation Army, Goodwill, ARC, etc. Sometimes you get deals, sometimes you get junk, but it is usually a better price than retail. Modems, Computers, and other toys can be had at these places. I (...) (28 years ago, 10-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Please may I join the mailing list.

I am making a Lego robot as detailed in the book "Mobile Robts, Inspiration to Implementation". I would like to use the Handy Board as a control centre. Please may I join the handy-board mailing list. Thank you. Richard Whitehead (...) (28 years ago, 9-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Trinity College robot contest

Fred & others, FYI, there were 5 teams of LEGO robots (using 6270 and HB) in the "grown-up" category from Penn State Abington-Ogontz (Abington, PA). These were freshmen and sophomore engr undergrads taking a robot design course. (One team placed (...) (28 years ago, 8-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IR

How does one get the Sharp GP1U52 recievers to acknowledge the 100/125 hz scheme? I've tried using the set_ir_recieve_frequency and ir_counts routines but I only seem to be able to get recognition on port 15. Is there another piece of code that has (...)   Re: Charge polarity on each board opposite?

(...) right; randy sargent's dl does automatically check the config and burn it if it's wrong. so your config is probably okay. (...) wait; you mean "pcode_hb.S19," right? when it downloads it doesn't give any errors? but the pcode still won't run. (...) (28 years ago, 5-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Charge polarity on each board opposite?

(...) Fred, I use dl on a DOS 286, which does the CONFIG register automatically I thought. In any case, I tried using dl -eeprom config0c.s19, with the same results. The dl of pcode_hb.lis runs nominally, but the LCD remains all black across the top (...) (28 years ago, 5-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

RE: Modification of RC Servo motor

It varies slightly from servo to servo. Fundemmentally there is a potentiometer that measure the servo position and prevents mechanically the movement .   RE: Charge polarity on each board opposite?

On a related note, given the power draw of the HB (minimal) would it be practical on some future design to put a small bridge rectifier. This will cost you ~ 1.4 volts (given two diode drops if I calculate it correctly) but has the advantage that (...) (28 years ago, 29-Aug-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Charge polarity on each board opposite?

(...) Do those two boards (Hboard and I/F) have differing requirements of the transformer charge plugs, as the schematics indicate? I have so many wall-warts around, DC and AC, but they all have the return line on the outside. Perhaps it doesn't (...) (28 years ago, 29-Aug-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
