I downloaded IC 3.1 for linux, and it seems to work fine, though I
was surprised that it was a text based application, and not an X client.
The Mac and PC versions have a GUI, so why not the unix version?

Good question.  Many UNIX programs are text-based, which allows easier
integration with editors, etc. (if you disable paren balencing, you should
be able to run IC under emacs, for example).  Also, some (few) UNIX people
are still using terminals, and in my opinion text consoles are a fair bit
easier to use than x-windows on a Linux laptop with a 640x480 screen and
crappy mouse (others might disagree here).

Coming from a UNIX background, I tend to be happier with text-based apps in
UNIX.  On the other hand, folks using Windows and MacOS generally expect,
and are comfortable with, a GUI and things like an integrated editor.

Anyone else have any comments pro or con for an X-windows based IC for
UNIX?
