  Re: expansion board schematic posted

(...) Since there's some prototyping area, why not just make them regular CMOS signals and include application notes on the web page on how to use the signals for various options. How does the expansion board mount? Looks like it plugs into the top (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: expansion board schematic posted

(...) I completely and totally concur, even down to the PS. More outputs are VERY VERY VERY VERY much needed!!! (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  expansion board schematic posted

Hi all, I have put on the web site a schematic drawing of the expansion board as it currently stands. I would appreciate any comments regarding the feature set. In particular, I'm not sure what's best to do with the two digital outputs: * just (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  AS11 IC?

Where can I get the assembler AS11 IC which is mentioned in The Handy Board Technical Reference Manual? I have found only a MAC version and I am using a PC. Thank you, Edwin (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Range finding question?

Hi! I'm looking for a way to tell the range between my board and an 'active' point that is between 5 and 500 meters away. What I mean by active is that at this point I could install some kind of beacon or transceiver which could echo signals sent by (...) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IC

Is Newton Labs doing _any_ development at all with IC? Seems to me like the final version was originally planned to come out about a year ago. ---...--- Jeff Keyzer jkeyzer@ucsd.edu UCSD Aerial Robotics Team (URL) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Expansion board

When is the release date for the expansion board or is it still up in the air? Thanks. Keith Keith Soldavin kas219@email.psu.edu (URL) (28 years ago, 7-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IR o/ps

Hi, and my obsession with IR sensors continue.... In the infrared transmission circuit of the handy board, if i connect one more LED (HLMP1700) in parallel, can i drive the two LED's at the same time? Will there be sufficient power to drive the (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Motors????

Well, I am about to get over the shock of frying my L293's. Now to address the motor issue. 1) What kind of permanent magnet motor can I use on a bot that is about 9 inch in diameter. Right now I have the two gear reduction motors that really work (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  memory

1. Is there a way of expanding the 32K memory in the HB? How? 2. I want to reduce the weight of my project by changing the battery. Is it possible to operate the HB at lower voltage since I'm not using the motor drivers for my project? If so, what's (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  blown L293's

Bill, I think the moral of the story is: DO NOt use 3v motors with the Handy Board. They draw too much current. Use motors rated at least 6v, even that can be a problem. I should put this in the manual somewhere... See (URL) to buy more L293's. (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: IR sensor question

As illustrated in the hb manual, the QRD and QRB sensors do NOT use modulated IR light. the sensors as wired just turn on the IR emitter like a little light bulb, and the received sensor value is a combination of reflected IR light and general (...)   Re: "Old" (pre-6500) Polaroid sonar boards?

Well, that was too easy. Guess I should have read all the way through the FAQ earlier... *thud. I've now got the MISO output driving the VSW input on the sonar board, and am reading a digital input for the MFLOG signal. Works like a charm. I'd still (...)   Re: Motor Problems

Geeze - sounds like my kind of luck. Well, according to the Handy Board FAQ, there are two varieties of the 293; the 239B and the 293D - the "D" is rated at 600mA/channel and has spike suppression diodes built in, while the "B" is rated at (...)   int's and long's

Greetings all Anybody know if IC can support unsigned int's or long's. My situation is, I need to load a 32-bit signed number, ie a long, into the HB. BUT, I can only load it two bytes at a time, most significant byte first. I've tried different (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Motor Problems

I left a email about my motor problem earlier this evening. Well, since then I have changed my code to use ports 2 and 3 and the bot worked just fine for a little while, then both 293 chips smoked. I guess I was drawing too much current. Anyway I am (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  "Old" (pre-6500) Polaroid sonar boards?

Has anyone done anything with the "old" Polaroid boards? (I've got some I pulled out of some auto-focus cameras I bought cheap many years ago.) I can hook them up and make them work by hand, and I've got one partially wired into a Handy Board, but I (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  IR sensor question

I have a very basic doubt regarding the working of the QRD114 sensor. If we connect the sensor as per the illustration in the handy board document, how do we make the emitter transmit IR waves? what will be the frequency of the IR beams (40kHz)? (...)   My motors quit!

Howdy, Well I finally got my bot to going and was hooking up the bump sensors. I had one plugged in and was seeing how it functioned when all of the sudden there was dead silence. My motors quit running. I have them hooked to ports 0 and 1 of the (...) (28 years ago, 6-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Downloading problems

The memory circuit is probably flaky, or, you zapped a 6811 address line output. If you haven't already tried, swap the 6811 with a known good one. If that doesn't work, examine the ram chip addr, data bus, and select signals with a logic probe when (...) (28 years ago, 5-Feb-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
