Hi!
I'm looking for a way to tell the range between my board and
an 'active' point that is between 5 and 500 meters away.
What I mean by active is that at this point I could install
some kind of beacon or transceiver which could echo signals
sent by my board.
I would like to use this outdoors, so I won't necessarily
have line-of-sight.  I assume that rules out any kind of IR.
Since I really don't care about the direction of my target
point, just the distance, I think some kind of RF solution
is probably the best solution.
Does anyone have any pointers to good, simple RF transmitters
and relievers which I could incorporate into my board?
Is there a chip out there that would handle this?
This is a pretty general question, so I'll be REALLY happy
with any pointers or hints I can get.

Thanks! ned mcclain ncm2@cornell.edu
