Hi.
I'm 49 have over 15 years of industrial experience in embedded systems
and am currently an assistant professor of computer science. I have been
trying to talk a school into funding a LEGO based robotics course since
at least 1995 when I wrote Dacta into a ILI proposal.
There are children who build robots using LEGO. A team from a Junior
High School showed up at the First Central Illinois Robotic Sumo
Tournament. However, there was a workshop at the colocated AI
conference which advertised an abundance of LEGO. (Unfortunately,
I was not able to attend.) Also, there are a number of LEGO-based
college courses out there.
I do think that the Mindstorms system should be ammenable to
young children. Their graphic interface is reminiscent of LOGO
which Seymour Papert succeeded in getting even pre-school
children to do things with.

| I was just wondering how old most of the members in this forum are? I suspect most people active in Robotics as a hobby aren't children. I'm just about to turn 36, but I was dreaming about Lego Robots since I was 8. MG (...) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)
