Anyone seen a TWO-TERMINAL  bi-color LED???  It would be nice for
fitting into a small transparent beacon.

Well, yes, the black brick in the pictures in my first message has a
two-terminal bi-colour LED in it. These things have been widely available
(in Europe) for years. They work fine with a 330 Ohms resistor too. I could
also get tri-colour LEDs (red, green, yellow). These have three terminals. I
went for the two-terminal ones.
OTOH, I don't know the internal wiring of the three-terminal LED, but can't
you just solder two of the three terminals together? If one of the wires is
a common cathode or anode, it won't work, red and green will light up at the
same time.

I have successfully made contacts on my bricks with copper foil
tape on a standard brick.  I'll put up a .JPG if someone can tell
me where there is an appropriate Binary location on this server....

You could put the pictures on your ISP's server. Everybody else here does...
I'd really like to see an alternative to electric plates. Hell, I'll put the
pictures online if you want. Just email them (to me, not to this NG).

GOTTA have Blinking Lights!!!!!

Radio Shack used to have stores in this country (the Netherlands) years ago.
I remember they used to sell blinking LEDs. They pulled out though. I don't
know why.
My local electronics store has various types of blinking LEDs. They take a
different input voltages. They have 3, 5 and 12 volt varieties (all red).
The 12 volt type works fine on the output of the RCX, without any additional
circuitry.

Enjoy,

Arjen

I've made a few LED 'bricks, and am about to make some more like "Flashing towers" with some of the ??name?? tapered cones and transparent small round tops. 330 Ohms is my pick; plenty bright at about 20 Ma for most LEDs and dims nicely with "Set (...) (25 years ago, 15-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
