Although the speculation is that you might burn out the rectifier if you try
to draw too much current for too long. See:

As to what it will take, right on the RCX it lists the input as 9-12V(squiggle),
where the (squiggle) is generally taken to be AC. Spare LEGO AC power supplies
can be bought from Pitsco here in the States.
