I wasn't thinking that the bot would have to exactly reproduce which
same-color bricks are used side-by-side -- if I used a two 1x2 bricks,
but the robot chooses to substitute a 1x4 brick, in my mind that's the
same model. We'll just say the robot is improving the user's design. :)
Thus, no great visual acuity or disassembly would be needed, and you
wouldn't have such specific constraints on the available pieces.
That still leaves the little matter of actually assembling bricks, but I
think that may be tractable (especially with well-used bricks that are a
little easier to connect).
