Have been experiencing this too. I tried changing batteries but it didn't work. Is there a fix somewhere so that W2K won't leave the IR tower's light on? Ralph, kindly inform us if you were successful in replacing the LED. Thanks, Sherwin (...) (23 years ago, 7-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

WinME and Win2k are completely different code-trees. WinME is [the last?] fix/update of Windows 98, while Win2k is a rewrite of WinNT. And NT has not been a problem for me, so this was introduced in the NT-to-2k rewrite -- maybe. So this *shouldn't* (...) (23 years ago, 7-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I've experienced this problem both using nqc and the java serial comm classes. Both are using the microsoft serial port driver, I assume. FWIW, the machine is a Dell Dimension Laptop running Win2k. I am not certain under what circumstances the LED (...) (23 years ago, 8-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

For what it's worth, my desktop W2K machine(generic PII 400)seems to behave just fine. I've tried a couple of different flavors of RcxCC, and the Lego Scout Tool, and they all communicate and then time out (turn off led). Jeff (...) (23 years ago, 8-May-01, to lugnet.robotics)

According to the schematics of John Barnes (Serial IR tower), the only way to light the green LED is to sent data or more precise, to hold the TXD line in high state.
