This may have to do with the (debatable) fact that the Lego Mindstorms RIS is _not_ an "advanced robotic platform" It was engineered so that the average 12+ year old could play around with robotics concepts. I have to disagree here. I have looked at all the current Mindstorms books and NONE of them are much use to the advanced user. The solar radiation angle is still fairly low at this time of year with much of the energy being scattered by the atmosphere as well as being spread over a larger surface area of the earth. I (...) What kind of ankle joint? A motorized one, or passive one? If it is the first type I think the leg will be too heavy to be moved quickly. That is critical since the robot falls onto itself. Well, if you read the page, you will find that they did papers on this principle. Try looking one directory back. Andy, I think the curved foot concept is the wrong direction for a two-legged mechanism. The few simple two-legged mechanisms I have seen rely on two feet, each with a VERY large footprint. Perhaps you should let John Barnes answer for himself. Different people have different approaches here. Dave Baum, for example, has spent huge amounts of effort on NQC and has been quite happy for people to use his invention. (...)
