Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

Hi Steve, (...) I would make sure that it works with Linux w.r.t. USB and Bluetooth, and work on porting and extending Lejos for the NXT. Feels like waiting for Christmas again :-) Jürgen (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) In a way, the very reason that I don't think Lego would pick me is the reason I think they might. I have been involved in Lego Mindstorms for less than a month. My first set (RIS 2.0) was bought the week before Christmas. I have made a (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: How will they decide who gets to participate?

I am just curious what additional information they will need to decide who gets on the test team? I have a fair amout of Labview G-language programming skill and can modify the RCX robot commands with out too much trouble. If we get a decent kit (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: What I would do (2)

(...) I would work really hard on updating or helping to update all the current languages and alternate firmwares which can be used to program the existing LEGO programmable bricks so that they can be used to program the NXT brick. This would (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) I'd like to see how much can be done with the Bluetooth and I/O with respect to the RCX and intermixing the two sets. I'd like to add BT to current designs, and having to purchase only one NXT for that would be brilliant. (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) Rafe, I think that's actually what LEGO really wants anyway. The bottom line is the NXT is targeted at kids (of all ages) and needs to be at the very least, FUN! :-)! Btw, I too would be more than happy to just build a lot of stuff using the (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: studless construction practice

(...) Although there is a disadvantage here too. I find fewer spacing options with studless constructions, actually. Integer and half integer spacing is easy, but not 1/3rd integer spacing that I can get with plates. Additionally, very fine spacings (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) RTOS - Real-time Operating System uCOS-II (MicroCos-II) which is a RTOS implementation that has been ported to many platforms including the ARM7 (URL) - Redboot is a generic bootloader for embedded systems and eCOS is a RTOS. Both are projects (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) I'd build simple contraptions that aren't necessarily predictable. Machines that move and respond are great but the fun lies in stochastic behaviour. I'm thinking that activities that aren't at least a little bit random are boring. Random (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: studless construction practice

(...) One advantage is rectified horizontal/vertical hole placement. To have an even ratio vertical hole distance using studded beams, you have to place two plates between each beam. Studless beams do not have this problem, and also provide a hole (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: What I would do (2)

Count me in as well. I am planning on doing more development environments especially AI & Parallel Processing based. Occam-2, Prolog, and LISP/SCHEME are on my list. I also want to create new sensors including an I2C-bridge (if it is not already (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: What I would do (2)

Re: NXT and bluetooth enabled phones

(...) Lejos is not a full JVM - it has no garbage collector, e.g., and the standard library is mostly absent. I doubt Sun would certify it as an implementation of the Java platform.   Re: NXT and bluetooth enabled phones

(...) Not really. Take a look at Lejos. After the VM has been downloaded to the RCX, you have about 14K memory for the Java byte code. Which is enough for some pretty complicated stuff. (...)   Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

I'd ask for them to extend the trial number of people they're selecting up to any number between the current limit and 1000 but I don't have any idea what their manufacturing capabilities are. If they really wanted good opinions, how about (...) (20 years ago, 16-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  What I would do (2)

Okay, building robots was too obvious... I would write online reviews, prepare classroom curriculum, work with students to evaluate and review the NXT and look for new ways to use the NXT in the classroom and in robot clubs. Robert Peterson (20 years ago, 16-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)
