After talking with another fellow Lugnet guy, I would be up for any of the
following (btw, I have no idea what is available for the NXT beta so some of
this stuff maybe completely redundant):

- developing a complete SDK for NXT
    - gcc/binutils/etc.
    - library API to access higher level NXT functionality
    - doc of course
    - website dedicated to NXT development when NXT goes live in August

- coding drivers (bluetooth/USB whatever) for the NXT and interacting with other
devices (like cellphones)

- developing documentation on how to program and use the NXT controller (either
via an external tool or the LabView stuff)

- getting a RTOS up an running (whether that be uCOS-II or Redboot/eCOS)

- I thought about providing a real simulator environment as well for people who
don't have an NXT using SkyEye or some other free ARM sim (there is another one
that is partially free that is suppose to be excellent as well)

- If Java is involved, I thought about an Eclipse plugin for NXT development,
that might prove useful.

- Write documentation!  I was hoping as someone who hasn't touched Legos in a
while to document my experience with the NXT set as a newbee and some of the
trials and tribulations I go through, e.g. a blog or some formal output.  I'd be
more than happy with this assignment.

My day job is UNIX based system programming anyway so the above is sort of
inline with what I know (or think I know!).  However, if they needed more
mundane activities, I'm up for that too.

But I'm sorta bummed out by the fact that LEGO has gotten thousands of
applicants and only a 100 slots.  I just feel I have like zero chance. I even
made the *mistake* of putting that I'm not part of any community, technically at
the time I wasn't.

With that said, I'm also excited that there is so much interest in the NXT!
That means the Mindstorms family of products surely has a great future and I'm
sure there will be more work to do in August!

I do hope at the very least that a good number of the usual suspects on
Lugnets.Robotics do get chosen!  I've been really impressed with the level of
enthusiasm and technical backgrounds of the people posting.

Well, I'm crossing my fingers for an email on Feb 6th! :-)!

Count me in as well. I am planning on doing more development environments especially AI & Parallel Processing based. Occam-2, Prolog, and LISP/SCHEME are on my list. I also want to create new sensors including an I2C-bridge (if it is not already (...) (19 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)
