I recently built binutils 2.13 for h8300-hitachi-hms target (default configuration otherwise) under Mandrake-Linux 9.0. When I use ld to generate an S-record file, it crashes ("Segmentation fault"), but still produces valid output. However, this (...) I've got a cheap VC package and started to play with it. Working mostly under Linux with brickOS, I would like to program the cam under Linux. It was no big problem to get it to work. Brushless DC motors, such as those used in PC cooling fans, won't generate enough power, even if the voltage is increased. Compiling your own compiler is undoubtably the hardest barrier of entry to brickos. I suggest that the h8300 binutils and gcc be distributed as Cygwin packages from the brickos website.
