also a thing I noticed (at least with the FD88) is that it takes a sec
or two to focus all the way - so if I'm trying to get a train that's
coming at me, I have to pre-auto-focus it to get exactly the shot I want.

which was a consideration for me - floppies work with linux, and you
can always take them to work (where you don't have custom interface
hardware) and upload the pics from there...
