Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)

(...) Well, pic rather than pics, but here it is: (URL) I just noticed I forgot to add a figurehead... Cheers Richie Dulin (23 years ago, 21-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.pirates)

Re: In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)

In lugnet.loc.au, Richie Dulin writes in praise of RBRs and rightly so. Its a lemon of a ship, a sodden, gap jointed, high riding, under-gunned, badly strung tub, destined for Davey Jones' Locker on her first encounter with anything more (...) (...) Ah, mateys, she's hooked now! Next thing you know she'll be crawling around on the floor calling "arrr" at every opportunity. Come on down to Brickswest and give the Pirate Game a try! Frank (23 years ago, 21-Jan-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.pirates)

In praise of the Red Beard Runner (6290)

Ahoy! I noticed TRU Chatswood still had a few of these left at the pre-Christmas price of $A109, and after umming and ahhing for a while I decided to purchase one. I knew its reputation as the worst of the large ships, its dinky battle damage (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jan-02, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.pirates, lugnet.reviews)

(...) perhaps you wanted to expose the newbie to the subtleties of the Lugnet interface, but you really should have posted the correct URL: (URL) page. I need to do more for pirates. Anyone want to sign up to produce the pirate ships poster? Frank (23 years ago, 16-Jan-02, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.pirates)

Western 'classics'? (was Re: Red Beard Runner in stores!?!?)

(...) All three Classic Pirates Sets were re-introduced to stores in Australia the second half of last year (and at half the S@H price - that's what got me back into pirates!) Also, do the re-introduced western sets count as 'classics'? Does that (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates, lugnet.western)

"Magnus Lauglo" <thunder_road@hotmail.com> wrote in news:GpzJ75.n12@lugnet.com: (...) I've seen all three of the re-released pirate sets at my local TRU. I also saw them fly off the shelves before I could get my hands on all three. Oh well, two out (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Red Beard Runner in stores!?!?

(...) The Redbeard Runner ($99.95), Armada Flagship ($49.95), and the big Islander set ($69.95) have all been available at TRU, at least in SoCal. One can only hope that they will eventually go on sale again, but since they are not in wide release, (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Red Beard Runner in stores!?!?

I think the Classic sets are available in the shops but not the Legends sets. I'm not sure why. I know I have seen Imperial Flagships and that Islander base at TRUs. cheers Magnus (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: Red Beard Runner in stores!?!?

(...) I think Brad mentioned that the sets would be made available if the store had a burning desire to purchase the items for re-sale. I think this applies only to certain sets from Lego Shop @ Home. Certain other sets, are deemed exclusive, and (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

  Red Beard Runner in stores!?!?

Hi all, I was in a Toys R Us (Culver City, Los Angeles area) this evening and saw a set of 6290, Red Beard Runner! I couldn't find the price as it wasn't on the box. Anyway, I had thought that these rereleased pirate (and western, too, for that (...) (23 years ago, 15-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

  Re: the rereleased pirate sets

well, i'd agree with the reasons you have all given. lets hope these sets do sell well too. if they do we'll either get more or brand new ones. i've been thinking about getting the spanish ship for a while now. also, heres to the hope of more castle (...) (...) Me too. It might be that the best way to see this happen is to build and publish a bunch of great MOCs from current (or currentish) parts and engineer (or hope) to get them released in the MOC line from LD.   Re: galleon (ISCC entry) then drifting off into an MOC of my own...

(...) No, that's how you reverse your course (at least if one subscribes to Carrollian logic, always a bit Dodgy by definition) so it will still be aft steering. (...) A gaff sail wouldn't be triangular. Jibs, staysails or lateens are triangular. (...) (23 years ago, 11-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Hello Michael (...) You should guys learn Latin :) /Contignatio/ means "floor", "roof". (...) I've used two 2x1 plates with arm. (...) Well, it's very nice, I like the idea of cannons hidden under the maindeck. (...) "W Szczebrzeszynie chrzaszcz (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: galleon (ISCC entry) then drifting off into an MOC of my own...

(...) Hmmm... there's an idea - front-rudder steering :) What if the triangular sail was used as a kind of gaff, i.e. RBR style? Would that be 'acceptable'? Michael Dallaston (who's very good at making gaffes :P) (23 years ago, 11-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

  Re: the rereleased pirate sets

I'd like to see new pirate sets. Sure, it's cheaper to re-release, but Lego creates dozens of new sets every year, and from what we've seen in recent times they could do a lot worse than a revamp of (what seems) a popular theme. (...) I always (...) (23 years ago, 11-Jan-02, to lugnet.pirates)

Re: galleon (ISCC entry) then drifting off into an MOC of my own...

(...) Arrrr, I be despisin' them lubbers at Lego fer turnin' 'round their lateen sail aftbackwards, iffn you be excusin' me french. Gives designers the wrong idea.
