Oh dear.  Have I developed this reputation?

Should I be offended or honored???

I wouldn't give it much stock.  I'm nothing special.

Actually I liked you post Allan, just have some opinions of your opinions below.

I too am young (16 - started LUGNET at 15 ) but I feel that this great place
treats all us youngin's just great.  This begs the question, when do you
become an AFOL?

Do yourself a favor and don't worry about becoming an AFOL.  I'm 33 and I
hope never to be one.  :)

No offense, but one of the poorer qualities of being an AFOL is the strong
opinions you develop.  You, Allan, are definition of opinionated and
therefore you are, without a doubt, an AFOL.

I'm not sure I follow the logic in this statement.  :)

Are you saying that because I'm opinionated, I must therefore be an AFOL?

I consider myself an AFOL because I have passed my dark ages, I am
supporting my hobby with my own money and I don't consider Legos as a toy, I
consider it as a hobby. Even though our new friend William here is only 11,
if he has the maturity to interact here, then I would also consider him an
AFOL.  Is this consideration a right way to think?

Finally, since I am a teen, does that make me a TFOL or is there no such
thing as an in-the-middle type label?

I open this topic for discussion, so please discuss.

In all seriousness, I think there is far too much emphasis placed on
labelling folks around here.  Be yourself, that's the best thing I can think
to endeavor to become.

This whole community is built on the AFOL and since younger fans are
joining, would that make them AFOL's.  The label isn't offensive in any way,
shape or form.

I don't find it offensive (not much anyway) but I do find it redundant.  I
think being involved in a message board based community like this is proof
enough that you're fond of LEGO bricks.  :)

I mean this sincerely when I say that I think things would be smoother
around here if people didn't worry so much about sticking labels on things
and each other.  The compartmentalization has gotten a bit out of hand.
Time to relax..... realize that LEGO now comes in shades other than the
primary colors and start to build new conversations based on bricks, rather
than who qualifies for 'Adult' fan status or not.

Yeah, lets discuss the non-primary colors of Lego.  Anyone for a discussion
on how long it took before you threw up after seeing the new "Puke" lime
green color???

For all my LEGO-purist feelings, I find the new colors to be a welcome
change.  I would rather see bricks of new colors molded in old shapes than
the introduction of more and more new styles and patterns in the old colors.
Is this hypocritical?  I'm not sure.

P.S. Welcome William and don't ever enter "The Dark Ages", they suck and you
loose many good years...

Yeah, but they're the pimple-ridden awkward years during which you think
you're immortal and clever ..... good riddance to them.  I was never so
happy as the day I realized I *didn't* actually know it all.  :)

All the best,
Allan

Lots of people wish to come back to these years, I'm sure somewhere in you
there is an urge. Right?

Nope.  They were miserable years.  Life as a 'adult' (whatever that is) is
much sweeter.... much more rewarding.

Best regards,
Allan
