In lugnet.general, Joseph Gonzalez writes:

Gonzalez, the adult Lego collector, agrees that the robotics
system gives kids incredible educational preparation. Still, he's
not convinced he likes the direction Lego is taking. He likes the
traditional model sets and usually buys discontinued collectibles
rather than on new Lego sets.
``The simple construction sets of fire stations, castles and
boats seem to be suffering quite a bit over the past couple of
years,'' he says. A police station set might once have included
300 or 400 pieces but now comes with only a third that number.
``Where's the fun in that?'' Gonzalez asks.

** EXCELLENT **

Very nice quote, Joseph!!!

I am reading an excellent book called "Rainmaking", and while it is about
sales, it makes the point that once you have been quoted as a source by media,
you may well get asked again. We need to see if we can somehow finagle the WSJ
to take an interest too, and work the angle of the size of the market being
underserved by the current sets.

KKK: "too much Ballast"... hah. TLG is not a ship. But if it has too much
ballast, perhaps it's in the superstructure rather than the holds. We could do
with less Danes who think it's their ticket to multinational executive status
and more people in the executive ranks who work there because they love the
brick.

(...) WSJ recently (last december) ran an article on Mindstorms, titled "Lego's Robot Set for Kids Grabs Crowds of Grown-Ups". Front page of the second section. I doubt they're likely to run a similar article again soon, unless something really (...) (25 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

(...) Thanks, Gary. Here is a copy of the article (portions of it appeared in my statewide newspaper's business section today). I'm also supposed to do a little interview with a local radio station on Friday. THANKS, Poilin!!! ---...--- Lego Uses (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)
