Steve:

Nope, no better intel, but my feeling is this: women do most of the
gift-buying, especially for kids.  When men buy gifts, it's for a woman.

Simplifying things a lot, aren't we?

So, when males are buying LEGO, it is likely they are buying for
themselves.

I can just as well admit that about 80% of the mony I spend
on LEGO is for myself. But looking at people in general, it
appears that a significantly larger amount is spent on LEGO
for kids.

I'd put it as high as 40-50%.  But I have no facts nor data to
back this up.

I _think_ this is way too high.

Maybe we should organize some field research, to observe the
demographics of who buys what.

I will talk to my local toy shop back in Copenhagen next
week.

Also, there will be a certain percentage of men who are buying gifts, but
are also AFOLs.

Yes. Any AFOLs who don't think LEGO is the ideal gift for
kids. :-)

Some of my cousins do get other stuff now that they think
they have grown out of playing with LEGO. They haven't grown
out of playing with my LEGO though. :-)

Play well,

Jacob

(...) Yep. (...) Could be. When I'm in the store, I'm looking at the LEGO, not the other shoppers. (...) That should be interesting. Let us know, please! (...) :) Steve (25 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.general)
