  Progress on Ore Dock

Hello, As I explained to some folks at the Ringe-fest I will be making a Ore Dock for the harbor at GATS-02. Here are some photos: (URL) sits about 27 high and is 10 wide. I will be much taller once I get some more parts. It will be able to have 2 (...) (23 years ago, 15-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) Looks pretty good Kai. One suggestion though, try saving the picture in a picture editor to decrease file size. 618K is a really big, a 6 min load for me at home. As far as specifications go, I think 27 bricks is already to high. I am pretty (...) (23 years ago, 16-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) If it is too tall then I will shorten it due to the fact I want to be able to run my ore cars on there. But one thing for sure is that I am going to have to widen it to accommodate 2 or 4 tracks. (23 years ago, 16-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I can see two, although I would argue it will be plenty dominant with just 1. But 4 tracks is way too many. The throat will take up too much space. Remember, selective compression... Why do you want to widen it? Docks often have slight grades (...) (23 years ago, 16-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I can stick with 2 tracks since that is what the one in Marquette has *I think* I also think one track won't look as good as two tracks. As for the grade, I wanted the track to come down to the ore dock from a hill like the one in Marquette, (...) (23 years ago, 16-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I would say make a larger test segment before you draw that conclusion... (...) That's a good question and I would defer to the folks talking about the dropped section for the authoritative answer. IIRC when they said "22 bricks" they were (...)   Re: Progress on Ore Dock

More ore dock thoughts. If this goes forward, we will need a lot of essentially identical small ore jennies (slang for what the small hoppers are called). Although the prototype hoppers are 4 axle, they are very short and a 2 axle design may be the (...) (23 years ago, 17-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) They should be black or brown (canadian national colors *i think*). I have seen some other colors. I was hoping our friend to the north, Josh Baakko, could give us some insight on what he sees at Marquette and the surrounding area. (...) It (...)   Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I went to Da Tech... I don't forget what ore docks or jennies look like. (...) I've NEVER seen a white ore boat. Taconite dust would turn it pink in a NY minute. (...) Not saying the chutes have to line up with the jenny bay openings, just (...) (23 years ago, 17-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

snip> (...) Never doubted you for a sec ;) (...) I stand corrupted :) (...) I was working on a 16 ore car, it would look good either way, whatever design has the most obtainable parts. (...) GO right ahead, I have too much work with the ore dock, (...) (23 years ago, 17-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) Mebbe. Fait accompli may be better though. PS, (to all) don't EVER walk out on an ore dock, it is a terminally stupid think to do. Very dangerous. ++Lar (23 years ago, 17-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

YAY i got more tubes now i can build bigger! (23 years ago, 18-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

here’s the progress: (URL) two pics on the right are the newest. I extended the dock about 64 studs, and finished the superstructure for the supports. All i need to do now is to expand it on the sides, and possibly lengthen it 64 more studs to fill (...) (23 years ago, 20-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) Well, a Jenny will likely have 2 dump bay openings. Assume they'll have a tie spacing between them. We just need to try to nail down the length we want to use. I haven't had time to do a design yet. (...) I'd advocate squeezing out a stud if (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I would have to say that a single track running out on the dock would be sufficent. If you have your heart set on two tracks then by all means don't let me stop you. But keep in mind how you are going to attach the track on the dock to the (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

What I can do to save my insanity is too widen the structure. Instead of 10 I will make it 20 so I will be able to fit 2 tracks in it. This will also allow for the big containers that go under the track that contain ore and direct it to the chutes. (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) I dont know if you misspelled anything or I dont latin, but what does Fait accopli mean? As to the subject of posting in .trains I think I might be able to get some more help on this subject. (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)

  Re: Progress on Ore Dock

(...) Fait accompli means "It's accomplished" or something similar. It means presenting the final result rather than intermediate steps. But I may well have been wrong and crossposting to .trains may well bring some other ideas in to bear. (...) (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)
