Larry,
I need some help as to what to do next?
Any needs requirements for the cars I need to consider?

Well, a Jenny will likely have 2 dump bay openings. Assume they'll have a
tie spacing between them. We just need to try to nail down the length we
want to use. I haven't had time to do a design yet.

BTW on the jenny design make sure the car has nothing sticking out on the
sides.  It will cause a bad mess because the tracks are going to be real
close.

I'd advocate squeezing out a stud if you can... if the car width is limited
to exactly 6 wide we are in for trouble. See if you can get a stud (maybe
make the dock an odd number of studs wide?) or better, two, of clearance
between a pure 6 wide car and one next to it. Or just go with one track...

I would have to say that a single track running out on the dock would be
sufficent.  If you have your heart set on two tracks then by all means don't
let me stop you. But keep in mind how you are going to attach the track on the
dock to the rest of the track in the layout.  The closest you can get the track
is probably best seen here:
http://www.pnltc.org/Gal_LLCA_0801/TheRock/Gallery.html?PIC00129
Which appears to be about 2 studs.  (I can't tell for sure, and still don't
have TD loaded at home to check it out.)

P.S. Any comments from other folks in Michlug would be appreciated, I need
to know how this is going to fit in with the layout as a whole.

I will try to work on a prelimary design for the layout this weekend.  (Which
means I need to load TD).  I will post pictures and commentary.  But all of our
planning could turn out to be useless until we have a sure size from GATS.

Good point. Kai's pics show that he's got something mocked up that has got
potential and some layout design showing where it would fit would be very
beneficial! What do others say?

Speaking of Kai's pics, Thank You Kai for resizing them.  So much nicer.
Otherwise it is looking great, I can't imagine how it could possibly look any
longer.  Guess I will have to do some searching to see what a Ore Dock looks
like IRL.

What I can do to save my insanity is too widen the structure. Instead of 10 I will make it 20 so I will be able to fit 2 tracks in it. This will also allow for the big containers that go under the track that contain ore and direct it to the chutes. (...) (23 years ago, 21-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.us.michlug)
