Anyway I had an Idea for a regional "LUGMAP" that would give a general idea
of the regions that each LUG covers.  I know that I have received many
inquirys as to whay region we cover and what other regions have groups.
This is especially the case with visitors coming in from outside the US that
are unfamiliar with the regional breakdowns of the US.

So anyway here is a little map that I threw together.  I made a general guess
as to the regions covered by each LUG so this should be looked on more as an
idea than something that has been made public.

Waycool!

Now I doubt that NELUG is the best place to host this so I was thinking what
we need is a LEGO Users Group "Network" where general information can be
stored.  Wait a minute we already have one of those!!!  It's called LUGNET,
well blow me down.  Anyway I would not presume that I think LUGNET should be
the home for such a map and I am perfectly happy to keep in on NELUG but if
there were concensis that this should be on LUGNET and Todd decided it was
a good idea I would be happy to maintain it here instead of on NELUG.

We'd be more than happy, Eric!   Just talked to Suzanne and she said Yup
that's one of the things we talked about doing long ago (before there were
any LUGs at all) so now that the map is starting to fill up, now's a great
time to do it!  :-)

This would also translate well to the LTC groups as well and I would be
happy to make a map for them as well if people would like to see one.  The
only problem is it would probably be best to have a separate map for the
LTCs just because they overlap regions with some of the LUGs so to keep
things clear I would probably be best to keep them separate.

The app you're using to make the map -- does it have a "layers" feature?
If so, you could (this is just an idea) start with a blank map, then have
transparency layers that sit on top of it -- one for general LUGs and one
for train clubs.  If you exported three composite images (A, B, A+B), then
the different transparencies (layers) could be selected using checkboxes
(i.e., "show train clubs", "show general LUGs", etc.) or a multiple-select
listbox.  Just a thought.

Anyway let me know if you think something would be a good idea.  If the
responses are positive enough I will set up a page on NELUG and start
maintaining this on a regular basis as needed.

Sounds great!  At some point a world map may also come in handy.  (Hint :-)

BTW, we've got flag image-files at all sorts of sizes -- even itty bitty ones
10 pixels tall which may appear on a new user-friendly homepage.  Perhaps
something map-oriented (though not so US-focused) would fit in there too.

(...) Great! (...) Well the "app" I used for this is about as unsophisticated as you can get. I do have some better "apps" that I can use to see how sophisticated I can make this. Anyway I will play around with it some more tonight to see what I can (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-00, to lugnet.org.us)

Well this is for all US LUGs so I am posting in lugnet.org.us although I don't know how may people check the general US list so I am copying all the individual LUG Groups with followups to .org.us Anyway I had an Idea for a regional "LUGMAP" that (...)
