(...) No it only has to be on your side at the end of 3 minutes. (...) If they are equal as you say, you'll be watching them for 3 minutes regardless of this rule. (...) Right, but before you could play out around 8 feet before it was a problem. (...) (18 years ago, 31-May-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto21 page update

(...) While you have valid ideas, Im not sure what your "motive" is behind this rule addition. I dont see any advantage to forcing us to watch the game for the full 3 min, if one robot is clearly winning. What other strategys exist that would offer (...)   Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto21 page update

(...) Who knows? Maybe it's a pneumatic actuator that takes that long to fill up a tank and then actuate? A slowly geared robot? Something that races to the far end of the table? If the middle Marker Point going over the start line at 18" is instant (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto21 page update

(...) Wait a minute, I'm not the one adding a rule after the rule page as been up for months. What's your motive. :-) (...) I'm also not saying the match has to go 3 minutes. As you say below, a gentleman's agreement to end the match early is alway (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Personally I have no strong feelings either. Other then I'd like a resolution so I can get on with building. (...) As for "true" tug o' war, I think the rules are simple: Two guy, a rope, and a mud puddle. The one that falls in looses. Rules (...) (18 years ago, 1-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) UNLESS, the other bot plays out the rope. (...) I am fine either way as well. I have ideas, and counter ideas for most known ploys. When the idea was first pointed out, I saw this new rule addition turing the game from "loop holes" to a game (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto21 page update

(...) Think? I try not to think. It hurts too much. I still haven't built a bot, as my son and his friend have my RCX tied up.... but it has made me think about: 1) battery box solution 2) pull back motor(s) solution 3) pie mmmmmm pie. I like pie.   Re: [rtlToronto] rtlToronto21 page update

(...) You guys are funny. You often talk about setting up the rules as vague as possible, to allow many different strategies. However, when the strategies don't conform to the predetermined list of valid strategies, they're called "loopholes", so (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) That's why I'm not in favour of adding this third rule, and I haven't called it a loophole. I don't agree with Chris on this. At the same time, there are many strategies which we'd call cheap approaches, stuff that's not within the spirit of a (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) (snip) (...) please note, I used the word loop holes in quotes. in THIS specific instance, I used that term to mean, list-of-valid-strategies. :) loop-hole was just easier to type. Chris (18 years ago, 4-Jun-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
