  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) I thought that's why we included a guidelines sections. So we could differentiate between what is required and what isn't. This approach is more confusing, not less. Derek (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) I put in a fair amount of effort differentiating out should versus must. Any should is really a recommendation. Chris was super anal about how he didn't want to enforce certain items on people. Uniform colour and solid bricks was one of them. (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) This is a rule. (...) This is not. (...) I believe the intent is 'should' means 'must' otherwise the rule is meaningless and could be completely ignored. When writing design documents I am very careful not to use the word should. It renders (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: R20 - Project Y - block transfer Date set

(...) no no no.. I just dont like losing to a robot built by a 10 yo. (1) Besides, wasn't it you who referred to your own son as... umm.... let me remember.. oh ya, "..a brat." :) Chris Ya RIGHT. we ALL know who built harrys robot. (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) I'm OK with that. I just know it never made it into the "official" transfer set description, or the "guidelines", so I didn't know it had been agreed to. -Rob A> (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) K, no worries there (...) Not to pull a Hassenplug(tm), but this is what the rules state-- 2.1 Transfer Interface ... The Wall Surface should be a uniform colour and made of solid bricks. 4.0 Design Guidelines ... The Wall Surface should be (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) > (...) Ok but this was discussed months ago and it was decided that this would not be allowed. I don't think this issue should be reopened at this stage. (...) The defined transfer "buffer" needs to be one colour, the rest can be what ever (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: R20 - Project Y - block transfer Date set

(...) Gee - I actually read this <ppppttthhhhhtttt> What - Chris you don't like my kids? You just don't like getting some good honest smack from a 10 year old :) -Rob A> (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

(...) mmmm I'd disagree. I think shared walls should be allowable (as I can't think of a good reason why not :) I'd say the XXXXOOOOOOOOXXXXOOOOOOOOXXXX is allowed so long as it is all on one plane. This (two openings) is the maximum that can fit on (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

This is the answer I got: (...) Yes (...) No (...) Pick a colour for your walls that you have matching hinge bricks for, or reconfigure so the hinge is one stud behind the wall. Then it doesn't mater what colour the hinge is. Derek (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Y??? 'Cause I'm asking!!!

So a few questions for rtl20 I think Derek asked this one--the 4 stud width beside the opening--does ths mean it can be 4 studs until the next opening, or does each opening require it's own 4 stud walls with no overlap? Fine ASCII Graphix below-- (...) (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Light Brick

Anyone got 2 light extra bricks they'd be willing to sell me? I'll pick up tonight at dinner if available. (Apparently I need one for this project Y thing :) and a second for "testing". Let me know the $ by direct reply. TIA- -Rob A> (19 years ago, 13-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) :) (...) Let me check... ... ... Yes, that's what TLG officially suggests. :) Steve (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) Part of the problem is number of pieces available to me. For example I have 395 1x16 Technic bricks. And that doesn't included the hundreds I've purchased in bulk. I have similar availability in other sizes. Now I apparently have 68 15 long (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) Right. But can you do it without the studded structure? (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) I'm going through this too. I find I can build components studless reasonably well, but I can't figure out how to tie them together. I find I have to friction pin them to some studded beams and build the supporting structure that way. Derek (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) That's kind of like saying "Have you built anything cool with an RCX?" A very small bit of building requires the controller. On the other hand, if you want to know about using the pieces, which (as you've seen) are all studless... Well, I feel (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Spacin' it--old style...

So I'm going thru my webserver--cleaning things up and everything--when I come across a directory I've long since forgotten-- (URL) little background info--I made a LEGO space movie back in '84. It wen't nowhere. As a matter of fact, it went so far (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: R20 - Project Y - Suggested rule change.

(...) was that smack or a back handed compliment? (...) naw. it was too forced. Try again. (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
