Since last weekend at MUGfest, we had a train layout going (pictures to
come), and there was a bit of interest in trains, there may be a chance some
of the MUGs could be interested.
I'd definitely be interested. I'm looking at building some train MOCs after I
get my current project out of the way. Actually, my current project would
probably look OK in a layout, but more on that when it's nearer to
completion...
I think the idea would be to aim small for the first year, but make it
effective, and then if that goes well, gradually scale it up for other
years.
I second that. Do you have any more details about the show? What kind of area
would be available? What other kind of stuffs there?

I'll ring the people that orgainse it thursdayish, I just wanted to see if
anyone at all was interested, there'd be no point setting something up with
them if there wasn't any takers from this side. It's a model railway show,
so we're talking scale, scenery, serious stuff here. That's partly why I made
it a general message rather than just emailing the trainies, Studs has been
able to pull of at least one "bring some buildings and we'll whack 'em
together for a town" thing, and it looked good. If we get some 6 months run
up for this one we could do even better. I'm guessing that we won't go much
above 4mx3m which if you've access to Track Designer, you'll see isn't
really that much room to run in. This means one possibly two loops with
shortish (and few) sidings. Of course the more trains (and own created
trains) the better, see a previous Studfest for a 7 car 7740.
My feeling is that we should be aiming for as train/town as possible and if
this means not displaying some stuff, oh well. That said, a harbour with
ship may have to be a necessary feature, perhaps even a (ruined?) castle.

If there's enough interest, maybe it'd be worth approaching LA to see if
they're interested in helping out at all? (I said *maybe*)

Funnily enough I was thinking exactly the same thing. Dependent on having
keen people here and a firm commitment to do the show and having orgainised
a bit with the model railroaders I was going to write(or phone/email or just
plain make an appointment with) the publicity/customer service whatever and
see if they'd be interested in helping out in some small way, after all it's
advertising the brick isn't it?

I'd be happy to be involved however I can be. I do have a fair bit of track and some trains too, so that might be useful *tongue in cheek*, and designing layouts is always fun reagrdless of the situation. The only hitch is that there's no gaurantee (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-01, to lugnet.org.au)
