  Re: Be afraid...be VERY afraid...

(...) Eh! Now that MacOS X is esentially just another Unix/Linux flavor, I think the overall "war" is moot anyway. MS will catch-up/on sooner or later, and join the bandwagon, too...you'll see. I'll tell you what, though...as an end user who relies (...) (23 years ago, 22-Aug-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Be afraid...be VERY afraid...

(...) I'm just taking it as a joke. BUT... given that UNIX exists, a Mac/Win war is kind of like two tribes of ants fighting over the picnic basket scraps. Sooner or later the real power (UNIX) is going to go home and have a real dinner, no matter (...) (23 years ago, 22-Aug-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) Umm...O.K.? I guess? Err...huh? (...) *GIGGLE*...you said kerfluffage... (I searched, this is officially the first time "kerfluffage" has been used on LUGNET...handshakes and backslaps all around...congrat's Larry!) I don't know if this is (...) (...) <snip legal kerfluffage> (...) This is awesome. Kudos to Apple's marketing department. Now all the downloaders get to feel all secret and stuff. Way cool. That's about it, though. You can buy and export a lot more powerful gear with no huhu. (...) (23 years ago, 22-Aug-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Be afraid...be VERY afraid...

The only operating system I have heard of NOT crashing is a Unix/Linux install if it's done right. Does the new MAC not crash? If the new MAC crashes, this thread is the usual boring Guy Kawasaki zombie crap. There are trade offs with everything -- (...) In lugnet.off-topic.geek, Matthew Gerber writes: (snipped) (...) It is silly to think that Mac OS isn't already in some computer in most of these nations - I mean, when I was in Cuba in '96 thy had their computers in the hotel quite up to date. And (...)   Re: Be afraid...be VERY afraid...

Classic, Matthew! I had heard that Apple was going to do this starting with the release of the G4, but I had not seen that actual document. Thanks for posting it.   Be afraid...be VERY afraid...

OK...I admit it...I'm a Mac user, and damn proud of it. But today, I'm a little scared. It seems that Macintosh computers are just to powerful! Everyone remembers the "Supercomputer" commercials...the PowerMac runs calculations at the same giga-flop (...) (23 years ago, 21-Aug-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Needin some assistance!

(...) SMTP?!? gah, they just chose a port in random to turn off?? Reminds me of our provider during y2k - decided to "play it safe" and shut down the whole network... so they did that, but apparently were so incompetent that they _failed_ to shut it (...)   Re: Needin’ some assistance!

(...) You think that's stupid; one of our major (Major!) regional providers, Telus, responded to the "Red Worm Threat" by arbitrarily (and without warning or notification) refusing SMTP access to a large variety of domains. This included Chris' (...) (23 years ago, 20-Aug-01, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

OT StarGate SG-1 (was: Re: Camera question)

(...) I've got to ask: (URL) see the guy in the back is Teal'c (Great use of the coin BTW), and I'm assuming the one in from is supposed to be a Serpent Guard, but who's the guy in the middle? Dr. Jackson wears a floppy hat like that. If so, what's (...) (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Camera question

Fantastic idea... Do the mirrors create little spots of light, or does the light diffuse enough not to be noticed? I imagine that there would be “hot spots” from the mirrors... I bet you get a more diffused light from the aluminum foil idea... Both (...) (23 years ago, 16-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)
