Re: Noncompliant software (was: Re: Incorrect group posting)

(...) Totally agree. It's not that it works weirdly, it's that it acts brokenly. If enough places rejected broken postings/messages, the offending software would get fixed. (24 years ago, 11-Oct-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Noncompliant software (was: Re: Incorrect group posting)

(...) Benjamin may not have control over what mailer his employer uses, but he certainly has control over whether or not his messages appear threaded. If he posts using software that works correctly, his messages will appear threaded. If he posts (...)   Re: Broken mailers which mess up threading

(...) how about, instead of rejecting such messages, make a "soft" threading feature... and activate it only for mailers you know are broken (lke that Internet Mail Service, Eudora, etc)... Just write a little proggie that will attempt to guess what (...) (24 years ago, 10-Oct-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Broken mailers which mess up threading

This broken thread garbage has got to stop. Example: (2 URLs) countless other examples in the .loc.au group.) The question is, how do I detect this broken mailer that Ben's using? It reports itself as: X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2448.0) (...) (24 years ago, 10-Oct-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) Actually, I tried this initially, and found it much worse. It's not intuitive enough -- even after playing for quite a while, you keep forgetting which button is going to go which direction. When I get around to implementing a Settings dialog, (...) (24 years ago, 8-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Also, Tom Cook says that instead of having the right button switching between vertical and horizontal, make the right button only do horizontal lines, and the left button start a vertical lines... This also will help faster play, which is (...) (24 years ago, 8-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) Ooh, great idea! That seems a lot less arbitrary than a time limit. I'll put that in and see how it works. (24 years ago, 8-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) the longer you take to do a level, the lower your score! muahahah (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) I haven't figured it out yet exactly. I think it's going to be a set time per level. However, I'm not sure what will happen when the time runs out. It might just be for a bonus. (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) heh... I guess I need to work at it some more - I'm only at 3200 or so :) (...) oh no! Jenn keeps saying I drive her mad cause I wait too long... is it going to be a timer with a set time per level, or just a limit how long you can wait (...)   Re: Hey, look what's on Freshmeat....

(...) Actually, I'm not sure yet. I've spent more time coding than playing. Karen's top score is 6000-something so far, but I'm pretty sure one can get past that. Also, I think I'm going to add a timer. It's possible to do really well if you spend (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) yup... pretty different situation... if I ever need to touch a win box at work, it's usually to set up the network on it, or install something for a client. Never do any kind of development or even desktop use on it. yah, right now I have (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: OT: P!$#ed of at ebay.com.au

(...) Indeed. vi sucks... however I feel it's good to know since it is likely to be on every unix box you walk up to. My preferred editor (emacs) often has to be installed in order for me to use it. I feel the same way about notepad on Windows (...) (24 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
