Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) LOL!!! OK, I shouldn't've crossposted to .off-topic.geek without giving a link (with that weird URL thing I do) to the top-level node in the thread, explaining what this was all about. Here's that: (URL) one clean way to do lines like your (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Todd Lehman wrote in several messages ... (...) ... (...) [Todd], {I} must have (missed the start <of this>, but why)? _All_ you're doing is (forcing) people l{i}ke me to write <[pre>-processors] to remove the [garbage] that (you{'}<ve)> let (...)   Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) OK Ed, I just quickly went back to my History file in my web browser and checked the original source...it does indeed let you change formatting right in the middle of a sentence like that -- although it will not properly abut the comma against (...) Oh heck, sure -- that makes perfect sense there! :) In fact, I'm sure those letters must be common keys for those command in lots of word processors. (C (...)   Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) I'm in shock. I guess you were never as DOS based as I was. B I and C were the keys in Word Perfect( and several other Dos based word processors) for those exact commands (usually with the <ALT> or <CTRL> key). (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) Whoops -- ambiguity alert again... Darn it, when will I learn to write?! By "it" in "if it fit in nicely," I meant whatever markup is chosen for member-pages, not the one mentioned three nodes up on the thread. (Darn antecedents! :-) --Todd (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) Huh?! Why? It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen! A single character in column 1 to modify the entire line? That's somewhat intuitive for *, ], and >, but for b and i and c it's pathetic. (...) Chell specking would be fun. Anyway, it (...)   Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) Reconsider not considering it. And add spell checking as well. To those of you who read my posts, spellchecking would be a welcome relief (you don't need to search Dejanews for proof). And I'd love to be able to format text in posts to LUGNET. (25 years ago, 5-Jul-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: markup syntax for member pages

(...) Hmm, interesting, I just sort-of half-randomly stumbled onto yet another markup format... It goes like this: You type text as paragraphs separated by blank lines, and you put special characters in column 1 if you want to do something special (...)   Re: Digital Photography

(...) Hrmmm.... do you mean digital video? Dunno about that, but digital still cameras surpassed 640x480 a LONG time ago. (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Digital Photography

(...) Wow -- I wonder if their technology 18 years ago was up to par with the digital video cameras on the market today? Knowing the tricks Sony can pull, I suspect it probably was. Anyone know the story on higher-res (> 640x480x24bit) digital (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

I just ran across this while sniffing around the Yahoo message boards to see what rumors were extant about my old company... (1) (URL) this query: (URL) found a few new things and some stale links.   Traffic icon and link

(...) OK, there's now a little honeycomb-dots icon thingy for the top bar -- it says "Traffic" beneath the icon, and it takes you to the /news/traffic/ page.   Text::Query

(...) No, it's using a homebrew. I probably should look into Text::Query though, if it's loaded with callbacks and/or easy member-function overloading. What I threw together isn't very smart about word roots, and it isn't very fast either. But it (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Tan color again?

(...) Well, whatever the case, I just used that module for a CGI script at work. I *really* like it. Espcially, in that you can construct query strings approaching the usefulness of boolean algebra, but with a less wordy syntax. I noticed (1) that (...)   Re: True Geekness

(...) Well, one reason is that that /news/groups/ page is obsolescent, but as soon as some meaningful icon for the traffic/activity page comes to mind, then it'll probably appear in a whole bunch of places. --Todd (25 years ago, 29-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.general)

Web Site Announcement and HTML question.
