They spies were caught and exposed as working for the French government.
Rather than being sentenced for murder here they were returned to their
government who packed them off to some tropical island "prison" from which
they have since been released.  This was seen by most New Zealanders as
being a slap on the wrist for them, and a slap in the face for us.
