  Intellectual Property Question

For purposes of this discussion, let's posit that music companies *have* the right to control distribution and to make copies of their products, and also that the consumer is granted the "fair use" right to make personal copies of purchased music.   Re: Intellectual Property Question

(...) I kind of agree with this. The question is how will the world proceed? What new mechanisms will arise to encourage artists to produce? I see a slight potential of a period of time where the availability of new art plummets. Another question is (...) (21 years ago, 23-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Tom: I suppose you realize you could just download these two songs, right? The RIAA has specifically targeted uploaders, not downloaders. The theory is that it is possible to have a need, not unlike you own, that might make downloading a song a (...) (21 years ago, 27-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

snip (...) I am pretty sure I read that the "CD-like disks" can be made into CDs by using a magic marker and coloring in the data track. Theres a couple million bucks of development down the toilet.   Re: Israel and Palestine

(...) Sure. I have no doubt that property deeds in Palestine changed hands just the same as property in Anytown, U.S.A. People there moved and sold their homes and farms just like anyone else. (...) Frank said it, better than I've had time to say. Very nicely done. What a great running dog lackey I've created here...
