  Hold your fire?

(URL) (was?) this analysis correct? What do people think? Is today's action likely to undermine any Taliban crumbling, or is it more of a "take out the air defenses so the aid aircraft won't get shot down" that won't strengthen Taliban resolve? I (...)   Re: Looks like the attacks on Kabul have started

(...) That 'live on CNN of course' seems like a barbed comment. If I'm wrong please forgive my assumption but are you saying 'typically we're hearing it from a large American corporation' to which I would say that it was equally live on BBC News 24 (...)   Re: Looks like the attacks on Kabul have started

(...) Indeed. I realise that I was insufficiently precise when I said I oppose bombing by the US, what I should have said was "bombing by itself". BTW the Taliban has responded. CNN is a bit slow right now so you may want to try to find this AP (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: 6776... Is this True?

(...) I don't get it. Aren't they? Chris P.S. They can't be all bad...after all, Tough Borris cried when his parot's days were up. (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Looks like the attacks on Kabul have started

(...) Well, here's to hoping it remains an attack against the Taliban and that we'll do the right thing when we're done. At least the immediate plans include a massive perfusion of aid to refugees, so that's a start. Chris (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: 6776... Is this True?

(...) And the cannon are just for firing 21 gun salutes... And surely, the falling masts on the Red Beard Runner and the Armada Flagship are just a nifty feature to make it easier for the crew to change the sails... I just don't buy the idea that (...)   Re: Looks like the attacks on Kabul have started

I have mixed feelings about this, in one way think they deserve it, but in another way I feel for the families in Kabul, even though they are strikning Taleban targets(ie military) The civilians don't that, they must be EXTREMELY scared. My 0.02 (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Triage, in other words, applied to oppression! (patients that you cannot help, don't. Patients that will recover without you, don't. Concentrate on the third group, those that will benefit from your help and which would die (continue with (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: War

(...) Disagree. You could be typing from an office in any nation in the world. I would assert (with no intent of proving it) that there are net connections into virtually every nation at this point. (...) We have exploited others wrongly and have (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: This is disgusting!...

(...) Yes. So what? (...) I'm not as great an advocate for this legality thing as you are, so it is of relatively less import to me. (...) Ultimately, I (think I) think that it ought to be up to those funding the change. So if it's a US thing, then (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: War

(...) Right now by typing this text in my humble little office I am enjoying my freedom of speech. My ability to do this is based on the past actions of HM Gov and UK industry. Denying the rights to others have given us the $$ to pay for the (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: This is disgusting!...

(...) This is all very worthy. 2 Questions. 1. What is the wealth of "richest nation in the world" based on? Hard work? Some human rights abuses? Exploitation? A mixture? 2. If taking action on the Afghans for their "egregious human rights (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: War

(...) What do you mean 'based on.' I would agree with the assertion that the freedoms we commonly claim to be self-evident and inalienable are freedoms that we are unwilling to let some others in the world live with. And that's wrong. But I don't (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Thank you, Britain.

(...) Well can you? Over the weekend that has been used as an example of how things can go wrong. Can you justify your words? (...)   Re: This is disgusting!...

(...) Please don't assume that those of us who didn't comment in any way disagree. I didn't write because there was nothing to say. Yup, it's disgusting. Actually, I don't bear Afghanistan much in the way of grudge because of their role in the (...) (23 years ago, 7-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Thank you, Britain.

(...) So what did you mean when you said this : "I would indeed *like* this to be a real war (...) , because I see one as needful"? (...) That is indeed heartening. As I have said before, I think Larry has a rather selfish view of what freedom means and that is why he is unwilling to justify his comments in the context of the text I have referred him to (although (...)
