The rant is fine, and yes, you can find some good deals at some of the
sloppiest of stores.  But you can't lay all the blame on K-Mart (And I'm not
suggesting that was anyone's intention).  The toy sections are usually a mess,
but it's not because they have not tried (at least, in the past) to tidy up.  I
think it's more a statement on the loss of some more subtle social values of
the past.  It's amazing how many kids I see opening boxes and leaving toys all
over the store (often on the floor).  And put yourself in the employees shoes,
after picking up the aisle seven times in a day, you kinda get wore out.

Often, I try to correct the kids, out of ear/eye-shot of their parents.
And surprisingly, to date all have listened and put the items away neatly.
Often toys are brought to their parents elsewhere in the store.  When they say
"no", the parents just leave things lay, because they find it too troubling to
return items.  I've started to make a game of my own out of some of these
occurances, because I find it all rather shocking.  I often pick up the item a
parent leaves behind and follow them throughout the store.  If I find my
moment, preferably close to the checkout lines, I drop the item back in their
carts.  If I cannot maneuver it, then I return the item to the proper shelf
location.  I know, it's a lot of extra time, sometimes - but it can be
enjoyable, and satisfying.

Some stores are well maintained, others not.  Some maintain a separate
clearance section, others do not.  Some price well, others do not.  And so on.
But as already stated, this forum give you the best information on how to spot
sales, and to check the price even if it is not marked as a discount.  And I
thank you all for this.

Happy Holidays,
Dave

I agree. K-Marts are some of the trashiest stores. However, I have typically found a majority of my good deals here. I think that it is a combination of the fact that they are sloppy with shelving thier items and slack about tagging thier clearance (...) (23 years ago, 12-Dec-01, to lugnet.market.shopping)
