If you're running windows 95 or higher, you can rotate the image in Paint and
cut out the part of the image you want.  Then set image attributes to be 1x1
pixels and paste the image.  When asked if you want to enlarge the bitmap,
click yes and you'll be left with a final image the same size you cut.  Not
really as hard as it might sound.

I must disagree with Dan here - Paint only works with BMP files, which don't
load in browsers.  Typical idiocy on the part of Windows, but something to be
aware of.

You can also get ACDsee for free which is an image browser.  It lets you
rotate any number of pictures you specify.  So if you download 100 pages of
instructions and half of them are upside down, just ctrl-click on the ones you
want to rotate and then select how many degrees to rotate.  Click on rotate
all.  It works pretty fast.

ACDsee sounds good, must check it out.  I use Paint Shop Pro for heavy-duty
graphics work, but I also recommend IrfanView: doesn't have the batch-
processing capability but does basic image manipulation on single files.  Good
viewer/slideshow too.  Very small program, easy to use, and freeware to boot.

Hope this helps!

(...) MS Paint does work with both jpg and gif images. You need to have the later version of win95 or have win98. MS Paint is severely limited, however is adequate for a beginner. Regards, Scott (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.auction)

(...) Windown 98 version of Paint works with JPG and GIF files. Win 95 version probably doesn't. The last time I checked, IE5 displays bitmaps. But if you want to convert them to JPG, ACDsee has a converter also. (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.auction)
