  What some people will buy!

Hey there, Get a load of this: (URL) pieces, currently going for... $71.00. Is the calendar software over at eBay having some kind of Y2K problem? Does somebody over there think that it's 04/01/2000? O.K., so the set is "rare." But I haven't paid (...) (25 years ago, 6-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: What some people will buy!

And the sad thing is, there really aren't any special pieces... I think I could make probably 20 of these just out of the parts I have in the basement! Troy John J. These is really insane, have you seen the final bid? 128.some odd cents.. This has got to be close if not a record for insane prices... (...) (25 years ago, 7-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: What some people will buy!

(...) That, for $128.+!?! That user id has a great lego sale page, but now I see where all the money goes. Hair-brained price for that. If it were boxed, I might pay $15 tops... Aaron maniac@vol.com (25 years ago, 7-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: What some people will buy!

(...) I guess the real "value" here is not the parts, but the instructions. The parts are available in many other sets, but the "set" isn't complete without the instructions and a box, if this set even came in a box. The wording of the ad that (...)   Re: What some people will buy!

It appears that for the buyer, this set was one of the last 2 sets need to complete his space collection. Given that the set is supposedly rare, I can understand paying a premium for the set in order to complete the collection. I wouldn't have paid (...)   Re: What some people will buy!

I think the price is OK. I know who bought it; he seems to be cornering the market.:-P I only know three people who have this set (with or without box), including the new owner of this one. It was on Matt Chiles want list and Todd Lehman's want (...) (25 years ago, 7-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: What some people will buy!

To date, I think only about TWO or THREE of these sets have even been mentioned on Lugnet or RTL. It is VERY rare. $128 worth of rare, heck NO, imnsho. (...) Crying shame I threw out one of my two sets of instructions. And that I lost that other white cap. Ohwell, at least I've got one copy. Jasper (25 years ago, 7-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: What some people will buy!

(...) I suppose y'all saw the closing bid? $128.51. That's $5.59 a piece. Troy Cerfatti was right, not a single piece was unique -- or, for that matter, large or special in any way. *Plus* there's shipping... want to bet it gets sent insured? Some (...)   Re: What some people will buy!

(...) I can't believe that set went for that much money. I had that set about a year ago. I sold it, but not for that much. It was on Ebay for $20 ended at like $35 with Shipping. People are going crazy, this is nuts. What has happened to this (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: What some people will buy!

$128 was a snip. While I am sure 1000's were made, very few of them seem to be in collectors hands for some reason. It was a Europe only set. I traded a used one with mint box and instructions to Todd when I "discovered" the set in 1997 for a MISB (...) (25 years ago, 8-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

(...) I bought a copy of that same set from Huw for $400. (Actually, I think it involved a trade too, but that was the value we agreed upon.) I was pretty happy to get it that cheap (back in 1997, I think). --Todd (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: What some people will buy!

What's crazy is, WHY have we only heard of a few of these existing? I mean, c'mon, promo or not, there have to be HUNDREDs at a minimum, and more likely THOUSANDS of these out there. Why the heck haven't more been reported? What's the REAL story, as (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: What some people will buy!

You've got to be kidding? Is that set really worth that much?
