Re: Sale announcements (Was Beware more SPAM...)

Jeremy, I have to agree with every point you made perhaps a better way Andreas could have gone about it would be to post to lugnet.marketplace that he has these deals and that if anyone wanted to be notified by email in the future they should send (...) This of course falls apart for most US ISPs, as they GENERALLY don't charge per message or connection time (if you have an ISP that does, GET A NEW ONE).   Re: Sale announcements (Was Beware more SPAM...)

What are the defining attributes of spam? If there is some universally agreed upon definition, feel free to just point me to that. Why is it that there is a positive correlation between the degree of net savvyness and spite toward spam? I've been on (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.auction)

  Re: sale and auction adverts

Chris, What you describe is an "opt-out" list, which means the buyer has to do something to be removed from the list. That kind of list can generate the same ill-will already expressed about mailing lists. A better choice is an "opt-in" list, which (...)
