Welcome to NJ, Chris.  :)  I'm in central NJ myself--   just outside New
Brunswick.  I usually do the Wal-
Mart/Target circuits and make some good finds.
Right now the Edison Wal-Mart on Centennial Av
(off Stelton Road and 287) has three or four sets
   at 80% off;

Zoiks!  OK, I'll be over tomorrow morning :-)  What are the directions
to that store from the turnpike?  I'll be coming from the South.

Hmmm...well, the Turnpike hits I-287, which you take   north to Stelton Road
exit where there's a lot of food
and so forth.  Head south on that road and the first
major intersection is Centennial Avenue; hang a left and
the Wal-Mart is about 1/3 mile on the right, set back in
   a large megaplaza.

   see my post in lugnet.market.shopping
   for details.  However, patience rules
   here--there is
an Ames south of Princeton, and a few other odd
stores around, but most of your finds will be at
   Target or Wal-Mart.

Oh.  I guess that's the same is in Missouri.  But I've never found 80%
off at Wal-Mart.  What kinds of sets are 80% off?

There's the $50 and $40 Insectoids sets--the crawler and   the celestial
stinger (I think), for about 75% off; the Daredevil
Flight Squad is $6.50 (and there are more left up on an over-
stock shelf in one of the aisles, though the ones that were
down are already gone); and Robot's Revenge from the
CyberSlam series is also $6.50.  They've got a bevy of other
sets on less-deep discounts; Hydro Search Sub (Hydronauts)
for $20, a Warp Wing Fighter (UFO) for $12, a Sonic Stinger
with face mask for $8; a few V-wings for $1.50 each; and a
   few other goodies.

NYC is also sometimes surprisingly good for having old
or discounted sets too, but I've been way too unambitious
to try and ferret them all out.  How could any one person
   do that?

   So where you living now?

Plainsboro - East and a bit South of Princeton.  Boy, it's expensive to
live out here. :-)

The most expensive state in the Union, on average.  Wait   until you get your
car insurance--that's when your eyes will
REALLY bug out of your head.  Fortunately since I'm here
for educational purposes I can't claim NJ residency, and
so I remain a MI resident for insurance purposes--very
nice, since I pay $740/year for all-around coverage and
here I'd pay almost $1100, even in a safe area like mine
   (Highland Park).

   Had I known this, I
could have hung on to those Neptune Labs and
just handed them to you in person.

No way.  Pat needed his anyway and I've used those sets since then.  My
son (and I) like the big windows in that set...I wish I'd gotten more of
them from you.

Well, they're not discounted, but Zany Brainy has a   whole mess of them--must
have found them in a
storage room or something.  All of the ZBs have
a stack, it seems.  And, of course, we didn't clean
out that Noodle Kidoodle--I'll be back there in
November and I can see if there are any left (after
we made our 'buy' there were still six or seven,
and since *they'd* been there for a year already,
   it's not unthinkable).

Do many people need the (Mr) as a clue to your sex when you list your
middle name?  With your first name, are the male and female versions
spelled the same?

No, but we live in the US where the subtleties of a   Welsh-derived first name
are lost.  I do include the
"Mr" for two reasons:  One, for the gender--I've
been introduced as female at conferences by people
who showed up late, which is embarassing, and I've
been assigned female roommates in dormitories,
which is actually quite funny; and two, so that
people don't assume I'm Dr. or Professor yet.

So are there ever Jersey LEGO get-togethers?

   None that I've seen yet.  I don't think there's
a really huge community of us here--at least
not a loud one.  (Lurkers feel free to disabuse
   me of this notion.)

   best,

   LFB
