Baseblates are 10"x10".  The 8'x4' can have 4 1/2 by 9 1/2 base • plates.
...
Mike's track design looks fine to me. I assume the table opens to the rest
of the caboose at the top, so the visitor looks across the three tracks • and
roadway and sees (presumably) buildings, which may obscure the two tracks
behind them.

The inner loop should be electrically isolated from the outer loop so that
two regulators can run different trains on each loop. Scotch tape on the
point connections works fine for me, and the back points could be there • just
for show. The outer loop could run freight and the inner loop could run
passengers.

A third regulator could be used on the front siding, but it's more • practical
to park an engine and cars there again just for show. A monorail might be
fun but would really crowd out anything else; I'd recommend holding off on
the monorail until there's a bigger layout.

The main building opportunities are the six plates behind the road. • There's
a few other odd spots, but it won't take many buildings to use up all of • the
half-plate or bigger real-estate. By filling in the remainder with trees,
flowers and bushes, it should be fairly straight-forward to populate the
entire layout.

I don't think there will be any shortage of trains. Note that there's only
enough space to run two and set aside a third for show.

Thursday lunch at Souper Salad is a possibility; I forgot that I have
visitors in this weekend so I may not be able to make it to New Hope on
Sunday.

Mike: mail me separately about your parts needs and I'll see what I can
bring on Thursday.

Cary

Let's meet at Souper Salad at 11:30 or so.  I'll bring my laptop and we can
fiddle around with Track Designer.

Souper Salad is not too far from the Fayetteville Road/I-40 intersection.
Coming from Raleigh, exit at Fayetteville Rd and take a right at the top of
the ramp.  Take a quick left onto Hwy. 54 and go about 1/4 of a mile.  There
is a fairly new shopping center on the right hand side with a Kroger and  a
McDonald's.  Go into the shopping center parking lot, Souper Salad is all
the way on the right, sort of around the bend in the shopping center.  I
think you can actually cross Hwy. 54 and take a left entrance into the same
shopping center where Souper Salad will be right in front of you.
