  Anyone Going On March 14th???

Re: Proposal for a Bay Area user group

well. if connectivity is an issue, I've got plenty of co-lo space (and bandwidth) that I can offer to put box in, or server space on my co-located box. heck.... i even got a dozen name servers if we need them for registering domain names. (...) (26 years ago, 17-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Hooray! Discussion!

I'm glad to see some active discussion from folks on the topic of a BA group. Please keep it up (and "Play nice. Don't fight! ;-). In the interest of keeping the discussion going, I'm not going to weigh in with any opinions for a week or so, but (...) (26 years ago, 17-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Re: Name of Club

I did not go to the last get together, but I wanted to very badly, so all of you don't know me from Adam, but here's my $.25.. I think either baylug.org or sfbaylug.org is perfect because: 1) they are intuitive urls; 2) "L" is for Lego, which is at (...) (26 years ago, 17-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Re: Name of Club

(...) I disagree. Model railroader groups tend not to be brand-specific. Similarly with craft groups such as beading, knitting, and the like. I'm sure we can find lots of examples of both brand-specific and non-brand-specific groups, but I'd rather (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Re: Name of Club

Or ask Lego if it's ok to include their name? Seems to me that they'd prefer not to acknowledge the existence of "plug-compatible" bricks. [techie allusion intended] (...) Why? The others aren't nearly as good as the original. Do you have a (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  re: Name of Club

Points made in prior messages: (1) "users group" term too techish (2) "Lego" word might be trademark problem I agree with these points. Besides, I think it's reasonable to include other brands of building bricks instead of restricting the discussion (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  re: Club Ideas

Danger, long post. These are my comments on the Club/Group ideas: Of course they are all my own twisted opinions. ;-) FWIW. (...) I'm not too concerned with the name. baylug is fine. It's probably easier than researching/getting approval from LEGO (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Re: Club Name discussion

(...) One thing maybe worth considering is how the name is likely to be pronounced... BayLUG or BAYLUG would most certainly be pronounced BAY-lug by anyone who sees it. They probably wouldn't know what it stood for, but they wouldn't mispronounce (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

Re: Proposal for a Bay Area user group

(...) I have server space that could be used for hte club. I'm currently hosting the "mini-fig world tour" among other things. Space is limited to the size of the disk (hundreds of MB free). We could host another domain name on this server. -Bill (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

  Re: Club Name discussion

(...) While I agree that "users" seems technical, and that Bay Area LEGO Club fits us better, I have to swing towards BALUG.ORG or SFBALUG.ORG. I agree completely with Todd on the trademark issue. I want to be on LEGO's good side, not against their (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)

Re: Proposal for a Bay Area user group

One of the problems with Geocities is the pop-up advertising. You also only get 12 MB of space. I think we might need more than that. You can get more space and remove the advertising, but you have to pay a fee. That kind od defeats the purpose of (...) (26 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf)
