In article <F8oG1H.ILM@lugnet.com>, hmillington@cix.co.uk had their 2d worth...

Have they replaced much of Miniland? Last year a lot of it was very faded.
Compare, if you will, what it looks like now, with pictures I took on the
opening weekend in 1996

It's all looking _very_ tired now. I don't think much of it has been replaced
at all. Many of the darker colours like brown and red are showing up
particularly badly. The other thing is that quite a few automations have broken
down and no-one's fixed them. e.g. one bailey of Tower bridge stuck half-up,
and the boat that's supposed to run under it is not running. I noticed several
boats that look like they ought to move (they were on drive wires) but wern't
going anywhere, and other places where vehicles obviously normally run, but
nothing was going on. Other signs of wear include half-sunk waterlogged boats,
mold on some models, mud & dirt in the Tube (although that just makes it more
realistic ;) )

By the look of your photos the grass has grown a bit, and the trees are a bit
more mature, but they seem to have kept it all trimmed nicely into scale.

The train track looked very shiny and new though, the nylon bits at the switch
points had no discoloration, so it's possible that they have replaced some of
that.

I noticed that the tires on the vehicles looked quite worn, they also appeared
greyish rather than black,  I don't know if that's because they've faded or if
they use a different rubber compound than normal. I'd love to know how they
control the autonomous vehicles, I'm assuming buried-wire control.

Don't take all this as a gripe though, I still enjoyed it enourmously, and
would reccomend it to anyone. I feel that quite harsh wear and tear is
inevitable in the British climate, they may have less reliability problems in
Carlsbad, but the models are gonna fade like mad. 8)

I do hope however that they don't let miniland slip in favour of conentrating
on the rides etc, down below. That's not what Legoland is about, not for my
money anyway.

A question for those of you who have been to Billund, is Miniland in Denmark
larger or smaller than that in the UK?

Regards, Dave Ryder.
