Well... (Dave shuffles his feet all sheepish-like...)
K, in situations like this, I look to how intelligent people handle
themselves--In this case, strategic planning and massive organization was
needed. Who better to look to than Napolean?
So how did Napolean conduct himself with troop movements, timing, organization,
etc?
Napolean had himself a two part battle plan--
First part--Show up.
Second part--See what happens.
So that's basically exactly what I did. I showed up and I saw what happened.
And boy, what I saw was spectacular. The LEGO displays were pretty great as
well. ;)

THings that I learned--
You can have signs that say in 100 pt. font and in big bold letters "Please Do
Not Touch The Displays" posted every 5 inches around the display area but that
will not stop 50 percent of the people from touching the displays. Most of the
actual breakages (besides the front bridge) were caused by some adult wondering
if Derek's maxi-figs could actually move. Huge sign--"Do Not Touch" but "that
must not apply to me 'cause I can touch anything I want" guy.
Eh, it's LEGO.
Ka-On's Gundam was a huge crowd pleaser, especially for the teenagers--they
spotted it across the display and just drooled over it.
Overheard in conversations from the crowd--Jason's Discovery and Leonov were
attributed to the following sci-fi shows--Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5 (I
mean that's close with the Leonov almost looking like the Agamemnon, but still,
seriously...) All-knowledgable boyfriends--"Yeah, that 's from 'Space:Above and
Beyond" (pointing to the Discovery). "Well," I say in Dave 'diplo-speak',
"Actually it's from the movie called 2001--A Space Oddessy" Guy looks all
offended that I could contradict him in front of his gf--eh, whatever.
Stained Glass Windows were a huge hit. Janey, nicely done. And now that you're
hanging around rtlToronto more, you will come to know that the plastic dust is,
indeed, normal.
The Fire Truck, even with many many 'Do Not Touch' signs, will not stop some guy
from seeing if the suspension really really works by shaking it back and forth.
Still, the fire truck was stunning to see.
Keiths fire truck crane, and helicopter were also man-handled numerous times,
but they managed to hold together and look great.
The display I was most worried about--Greg's classic space diarama--was touched
quite a bit, and many folks around my age pointed lots nad said "I had that when
I was a kid!", but, besides the pamphlet, nothing went walking (that I know
about)
Trevyn showed up with a Duplo/Technic based pneumatic steam engine, which was
inspiring to watch.
Paul, who I missed coming into the building, brought his mechs, tanks and stuff
for the train layout. Kids loved the mechs, but again, the touching-smashing on
the floor thing...
Oh, and finally the train layout--it was the 'talk of the town'. Derek, Jeff,
Jeremy and Calum--very nicely done.
Beyond that, the 'biggest' disaster (and understand that I wasn't there to see
this so I can, on no way, be held accountable) was when the Leonov was
manhandled right into the discovery--yeah, that was a pretty big disaster.
To finalize--the cookies were great, the company first rate, the LEGO purchases
emptying my pocketbook, and I am absolutely more than willing to do this again
next year.
Now I just need to catch up on my sleep before the train show in 3 weeks.
