Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Unfortunately problems like these almost never have anything to do with 'sophistication', it's just an effect of a couple of things: There is an uncountable number of permutations of a PC system - bus, RAM, video etc. etc. Most programmers (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Thanks for the Info Thomas, it would be nice if others with 16MB Graphic Cards could post their results. Maybe it is possible that the minimum specs need to be changed a bit. Eric Kingsley (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I don't know who else has had success with a 16 MB graphics card, there is probably some. One of my systems had a 16 MB card and I had the same results you had. What's kind of odd is it works on my oldest system that I've got online. Windows (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Well for me the program just does not work and my machine meets or exceeds all of these requirements so there is something else at work here if you ask me. My System Windows XP (Service Pack II) Pentium 4 16 MB Graphics Card with DirectX 8.0 (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I'd say. The budget PC I built myself two years ago exceeds all fo these specs by at least 2X. The fact that they claim it will run on 98 (not just 98SE) is far better than most software I see today. Even my brother's old Gateway that's (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Well I think I agree that it is my video driver but this is my beef... I run some fairly graphics intensive games with no problem, nothing super big graphics wise but WarCraft isn't a cupcake either. I don't see LEGO Digital Designer requiring (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

On the Legofactory.com site, the Terms of Service page said: (...) Does that mean that even entrants from Canada have to send the form to Denmark? Wouldn't it be more convinient for Canadians to send the forms to Enfield CT? It's alot closer, and (...) (22 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Problems like these are most often the effect of the video card and the video drivers. I have NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (I think), DirectX 9, resolution 1152x864, 32 bit colour, updated drivers, and absolutely no problems with video or saving. Make (...) (22 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) It's probably a feature. The maths for converting a point on the 2D screen to a 3D position gets rather flakey when you are looking almost horizontally - I have the same problem (and limitation) in BlockCAD. (22 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I found the easiest way to lay the baseplates was from the underside! Yes you can add pieces 'top down' if you want - the floor sinks when you add something from the bottom. I think the 'clicking' is sometimes fantastic, and sometimes just (...) (22 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) It looks like they have put the zero point of the parts in one corner, not in the center point as in LDRAW. OTOH, when you are tilting a part (up arrow) it's not rotating around the same point, but that may be an effect of the snapping. (...) (...) (22 years ago, 11-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I'll try that. (...) Picture 4 2x2 bricks together as a square. (2 bricks wide, 2 bricks long) So you have a model that is 4 studs x 4 studs. If I were to rotate one of those, around its own corner, it would move itself out of that 4x4 (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I raised it - I set it at about 1.5, if I remember correctly. (...) Yeah, I think that's a feature, not a bug. (...) They always seem to rotate around the corners for me as well. I'm not sure what you mean by "moves the piece out of the (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I agree. I think it's absolutely fantastic that they've included a Senior category (...) I'm hoping to do so, but am still struggling with the LDD software. :( Best regards, Allan B. (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Thanks, placing pieces I have figured out. I can now sporadically save with some manual preferances set but it is very sporadic and the graphics are real flakey. I love the idea but I am runing on a pretty beefy Windows XP machine and these (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Marc, Good information, thank you! Quick follow-up questions. (...) Raise or lower the sensitivity? (...) Will try that. (...) I tried playing with that a bit, but my test model was just a bunch of random pieces, I'm still trying to get the (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) is indeed useful (comparing LDD to other color palettes), I was talking about the specific "Competition Pallet" (of parts) - i.e. what you are allowed to use to make your contest entry. You know, come to think of it, maybe "pallet" is the term (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I also had problems with lining up pieces. Here are some things that helped me: Adjust the mouse sensitivity in the LDD configuration program. This will help with the "floaty" feeling of the pieces. Wait a second before jiggling the piece (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) The competition has two age groups, under 13 and 13 and over (Junior and Senior). The finals will have 10 Grand Prize winners: 8 juniors and 2 seniors. They're wisely seeding it so the kids don't get trounced by the adults. And they're making (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

While I think this is a good idea I have found the software fragile. I cannot save at all, it just shuts down the program. I find it very difficult to line up the 8x8 plates/roadplates next to each other. I am going to try reinstalling the software (...) (22 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)
