Thanks,  placing pieces I have figured out.  I can now sporadically
save with some manual preferances set but it is very sporadic and the
graphics are real flakey.  I love the idea but I am runing on a
pretty beefy Windows XP machine and these problems are very
disappointing.

Problems like these are most often the effect of the video card and the
video drivers.
I have NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (I think), DirectX 9, resolution 1152x864, 32 bit
colour, updated drivers, and absolutely no problems with video or saving.

Well I think I agree that it is my video driver but this is my beef...  I run
some fairly graphics intensive games with no problem, nothing super big graphics
wise but WarCraft isn't a cupcake either.  I don't see LEGO Digital Designer
requiring nearly that much graphic sophistification.

Count me disappointed.

Make sure you use 32 bit colour, it seems the software needs it. You could
also try a lower resolution for LDD (run the 'Preferences' choice from the
start menu.) - when saving, LDD is creating an image of your model, maybe
it's getting too large?

Yeah I have tried lowering the graphics down to 800-600 with no change, I might
try even lower but I can't imagine that improving my experiance.

Again great idea, from my end poor implementation.
