modularity is good, I agree but the sets just dont look right. they don't say LEGO to me "Larry Pieniazek" <lpieniazek@mercator.com> wrote in message news:GFn9G4.Hzv@lugnet.com... (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

I think I spot a rat...a Lego rat? mouse? In both #4722 (at his feet, under the red suitcase) & #4723 (on the mantle). It's dark grey and has a different tail then the kitten, unless this is a new kitten? There is a picture of a rat in a cage in the (...)   Re: True Harry Potter Pics...and I feel sick!

(...) Posted one reply to James which didn't seem to make it (maybe I accidentally deleted the confirm mail) I am not sure I agree. The colors may be a bit loud but I just don't see this as "juniorised dreck". I expect that when I get home this (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

(...) Not sure I necessarily agree. I can see my kids going absolutely gaga over them, and I like the modularity evident in the room sets. I wonder if they integrate into the overall castle as well? Do we know the provenance of these pics? ++Lar (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

Re: True Harry Potter Pics...and I feel sick!

(...) Hideous junk? Awful ABS? Juniorized dreck? Total garbage? "Good source of parts"? What a complete and utter disappointment. Hurl. Maybe I'll recover and look again, but some of these rank on first look as the worst Lego sets I've ever seen, (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

Fantastic sources of parts. Thoroughly uninspiring ugly sets ugh. not sure about the new arched doorway pieces. looks thorougly unlego to me as it looks sculpted rather than flat with a printed pattern. same gos for the roof tiles. The big orange (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

Re: First True Harry Potter Pics!

The roof pieces on Hogwarts castle and on Hagrid's hut are plastic sheets, they could have made the roofs out of sloped BRICKS at least! The owls look nice, but one could overpopulate a forest quickly with all of those owls. Purple witch's hats! (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

Re: First True Harry Potter Pics!

Oh wow. I didn't think they'd be this good. I mean, yes, they do seem a bit juniorized...but they have many, many pieces great for "castle" use. Purple wizard hats, black beards, two-headed dogs, jewels, cauldrons, new hair pieces, green convex (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

I do like some of the Harry Potter sets. But I don't like the way Lego used cardboard for buildings in the background. (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.castle)

Read all about it: (URL) liked this line: "To make this film you have to be a fan. These books are incredibly imaginative, classic stories. Why would you need to toy with that?" Scott A (23 years ago, 28-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

  Some notes on sets...

I went back to the toy store that had the box mock ups, and took a few notes. There are probably some details I overlooked because I don't know much about HP. 4701 Sorting Hat HP in a black conical hat (seemed like the old cone hat from the castle (...)   Train Wheels was Re: Sets

I was just doing a little surfing and found a few pictures of some really old train sets that have similar wheels to the Hogwarts Express. It looks like they've used the old wheels and changed them to use the newer pegs instead of however they (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jun-01, to lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.trains)

I think the castle and the train both look pretty cool. They'll both almost certainly end up in my collection. John Hansen (23 years ago, 22-Jun-01, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.harrypotter)
