One more point that just popped into my head: External linking. As a
Wiki can not and will not replace places like Peeron, a Lego Wiki would
need a simple, but powerful way of linking to set and part references.
I have not tried to set up a Wiki before, but there are propably ways of
handling special links. A suggestion would be to create two classes of
links that look like [set:8880] and [part:3001], automatically linking
to the entry at Peeron/Brickset/Bricklink (if the link targets allow).
The resulting link from '[part:3001]' could be '<b>3001</b> <i>(<a
href="http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/3001">P</a>/<a
href="http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3001">BL</a>)</i>'

Handling parts and sets as special link classes has the additional
advantages that the links in the articles are uniform in their design,
and that url changes in the referenced site can be handled centrally. If
a site drops out (like the building instructions on BS just did), it
only takes a single place to take care of it all.

Similar classes could be [partpic:3001], inlining a picture of the
referenced brick, maybe '<img border="0"
src="http://www.bricklink.com/P/1/3001.gif">', or a "setpic:' equivalent.

Ah, so many ideas, so little time.

Yours, Christian Treczoks

I am thinking of starting LegoWiki, to be about Lego the company, Lego the brick, and Lego the community. A Wiki is a collaboratively created and edited site, where the content is released under a free license, such as the GNU Free Document License (...) (19 years ago, 8-Jun-05, to lugnet.general)
