I got my Sony Mavica for about $700; they also have one in the $400-500
range. The main attraction to a Mavica is that it uses a DOS-formatted 1.44
Mb floppy diskette with JPEG files, so you don't need to worry about special
software or hardware. I can usually get about 25-30 images on a floppy, and
while the disk is still in the camera I can preview and delete images I
don't want, and re-use the disk space. It also does macro imaging
wonderfully -- easily within an inch. ...Aaaaand, it's got a tripod
mounting hole, which I've seen more than a few video and still cameras
lacking.

This might be cheaper in the long run, if you won't be doing tons of
photos. The Kinko's down the street will do it for about (I think) a dollar
a print.

Too true, too true. I am waiting for the cameras that excel at both to hit
the market, Real Soon Now.

Tom, does this imply that you get even closer to the spamcake than that?
(...checking ASCII alignment...) :-P

| (...) We've love our Mavica! The old one was damaged, but it was a good excuse to get the new model... I can't imagine ever going back to traditional film photography. Carrying around a pocket full of floppies is pretty fun too. Say, BTW, did you (...) (26 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)
