Keep your eyes open for digital camera based on Sound Vision
(http://www.soundvisioninc.com) technology. My company (Mentor Graphics)
helped Sound Vision design the chip set (shameless plug) that is the brains
of the camera. Although SoundVision does not plan to market the camera
themselves (it will be OEM'd and branded by other digital camera companies)
the price of the camera should be very attractive. I saw the preproduction
version of the SV1301 (VGA resolution, see sample pictures at
http://www.soundvisioninc.com/sv1301_sample_images.htm, check out the
picture of the Quarter) last week and I was impressed. The chipset will
actually support much higher resolution when coupled with different CCD
soultions so higher end camera will also be available at some point.
The SV1301 with a 16MB compact flash card will hold something like 1200
pictures! Perfect for visiting LEGOLAND! From what I understand the
battery life is exceptional as well. Like the MAVICA, the SV1301 will also
record some amount of live video or audio (MP3) as well. Preliminary
information suggests that the reatil price for the SV1301 (or whatever
branded name it is actually released under) should be around $150 or so. I
am trying to put my hands on one to actually spend some time playing with
it.

| (...) I wonder how hard it will be to actually get a picture like that one of the quarter. If you look carefully, it is obvious that the depth of field is extremely short (it looks like the picture was taken at an oblique angle, but still the depth (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jun-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)
