Not that you'd go this route, but there are several places in my town that'll
transfer my pix to diskette while they're making prints. That's how I've been
doing it.
I've seen some video cameras that get really close, like one or two inches. Do
the video camera thing, and you can use your camera for other things. No need
to spend more $$ here than you have to, esp. if your video setup does
everything a digital camera can do.

| (...) I got my Sony Mavica for about $700; they also have one in the $400-500 range. The main attraction to a Mavica is that it uses a DOS-formatted 1.44 Mb floppy diskette with JPEG files, so you don't need to worry about special software or (...) (26 years ago, 17-Jun-99, to lugnet.general)
