Personally, I can understand the rationale for coming out with colors that
are more linear, and I understand that even a company the size of LEGO has
limits on how many different products they can carry, but I am still
disappointed that two of the most useful colors currently available are
being abandoned.
I wonder how much confusion would arise from having two sets of such similar
colours on the shelves at the same time (I imagine the transitional period is
going to be complicated enough).  I can see why people with alerady large
amounts of grey would be disappointed, but this change is hardly going to
make pre-existing collections 'worthless' to build with.

Okay, maybe I'll hit the ground soon and feel bad about this, but right now I
can't see anything other than the oppurtunities it presents.

Well if you read my posts on this topic, you will see that I have not even once
suggested that my existing bricks will become "worthless" or "incompatible"
because of this change.  I am merely disappointed that two of my favorite and
most sought-after colors will no longer be available very soon.

The new colors DO present new opportunities, but getting rid of the old colors
ELIMINATES possibilities.  Especially Brown, which is a very useful and very
rare color.  I already own a lot of Dark Grey, and even though I would like to
own a lot more of it, I do have enough of it to work with.  But Brown is a color
that I do not have nearly enough of to do very much with at all.  The new "Dirt
Orange" color (or whatever it will be called) is not a good substitute, in my
opinion.

If given the opportunity, I would buy buckets of Brown or Dark Grey brick in all
shapes and sizes.  On the other hand, I've seen the new colors at Pick-a-Brick,
and I don't see that Lime Green, Dark Pink, or even Teal and Purple are colors
that can be utilized in any significant quantities without inducing nausea.
They are fine accent colors, and I welcome their availability, but I wouldn't
want to see (for example) Red REPLACED by Pink, or Yellow REPLACED by Lime
Green, no matter how much of these primary colors I may already own.

New is good, but getting rid of old is bad.  (Can you say Monorail?)  It's
not that the new shades aren't welcome, but not at the expense of the old
ones.
Indeed, but did anyone feel 'betrayed' by the discontinuation of Monorail?
Did anyone quit Lego because of it.  I think we got over that :)

Actually, I know quite a few people who felt betrayed by the discontinuation of
the Monorail product line, and who continue to question the company's insistence
that they are somehow unable to replicate the molds or release new sets that
would be compatible with this very nifty line.  I know people who are literally
afraid to use their Monorails because they know that they are irreplaceable if
they become damaged or worn out.

I never said I would quit my LEGO hobby over this (or any other) issue.  I am
simply disappointed that the company would make a change like this without
considering the effect that it was certain to have on a large number of their
most avid fans.
